Function Engineering Technicians Job Family Test Technician (Senior)

 

Analyst Job Family Summary Responsible for working on platform, peripheral, software, and special assignments that are moderately complex in nature. Requires good judgment to resolve problems and provide recommendations. Works from developed test plans and/or written or verbal instructions. Test prototype development systems, peripherals, and/or pre-released software for compatibility and functionality by performing test cases developed by Test Engineers. Principal Accountabilities

- Constructing, troubleshooting and testing prototype assemblies. Document as appropriate.

- Assisting engineers in test phase of prototype systems and/or pre-released software.

- Ability to set up, configure, and test hardware and software products.

- Perform specified test cases and clearly document results.

- Functional testing and analysis of newly developed products to ensure operation and reliability.

- Assist other technicians, schedulers, and engineers in completing assigned tasks.

- Assemble and disassemble test configurations as necessary.

- Learn new technologies and procedures to remain current with industry standards and new products.

- Ability to set-up, configure, and test hardware and software products.

- Perform specified test cases.

- Functional testing and analysis of newly developed products to ensure operation and reliability.

- Attend and participate in project team meetings.

 

Scope:

- Provide clear and constructive feedback on specified test plans.

- Seek and impart new technologies and procedures to remain current with industry standards and new products.

- Very specialized in PC architecture or software. Complexity

- Works on assignments that are extremely complex in nature where independent action and a high degree of initiative are required in resolving problems and developing recommendations. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may cause delays in schedules.

 Knowledge and Skills:

- Understanding of Microsoft Operating System architecture.

- Understanding of network topologies and protocols.

- Understanding of hardware and software interactions; able to apply this understanding to resolve issues.

- Ability to identify potential product weakness and be able to provide design guidance and recommendations for improvements to subsequent redesigns.

- Detail-oriented with attention to product quality.

- Verbal and written communication.

- Tactical execution skills.

- Problem solving and analysis skills.

- Ability in organizing and managing multiple projects, setting priorities and working independently under aggressive timelines.

Additional Job Details:          

3-5 must haves experience:

- Experience with Ethernet and Infiniband products

- Deep knowledge of RedHat (RHEL) / SuSE Linux Operating System

- Candidate preferred to have at least 1 valid of the following certification: LPI C1 (Linux Professional Institute C1), RHCT (Red Hat Certified Technician)

 

3-5 “nice to have” experience:

- At least 2 years of relevant technical support experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Troubleshooting, problem solving, multi-tasking, and organization skills

 

- Experience with networking product interoperability testing and performance testing.
